The latest Kingshay data for Wales shows that between July and August, the average yield per cow fell by 0.6litres/day (2.5%) to 23.1litres/day. This is also 0.3litres/day (1.3%) less than the average daily yield in August 2007.
Both butterfat and protein levels increased between July and August, butterfat was up by 21 percentage points over the period to an average of 4.05%. Protein levels increased by six percentage points over the period, to an average of 3.27%. Annual comparisons show that butterfat levels are 11 percentage points higher than August 2007, when it stood at 3.94%. Protein levels in August 2007 stood at 3.28%, one percentage point higher than in August 2008.
SCC levels increased by 8,000/ml between July and August, to an average of 205,000/ml, 1,000/ml lower than the average level in August 2007, which stood at 206,000/ml. Bactoscan levels were also up between July and August, by 2,000/ml to an average of 29,000/ml. However, this is 1,000/ml lower than the average level in August 2007, which stood at 30,000/ml.
The average milk price between July and August increased by 2.7% (0.7ppl) to an average of 26.22ppl - 6.83ppl (35.2%) more than the average in August 2007, which stood at 19.39ppl. Concentrate levels were up by 0.01kg/litre from August 2007 to an average of 0.30kg/litre, 0.03kg/litre more than in July.

Rolling annual data shows that the average yield stood at 7,193 litres per cow in the 12 months ending August 2008, 65 litres per cow less than the average level in the previous year. Butterfat and protein levels are one percentage point and two percentage points lower than the previous year respectively, at an average of 4.07% for butterfat and 3.28% for protein. The average milk price has increased by 42.6% (7.43ppl) to an average of 24.89ppl in the 12 months ending August 2008. Over the same period, concentrate use has increased by 0.01kg/litre to an average of 0.30kg/litre.
