Latest data from the DDC Wales shows that in the week ending 06/08/08, the average price of all cows and heifers increased when compared to the previous week, with the exception of Recorded heifers where no sales were recorded in the week ending 30/07/08. Recorded heifers averaged at £1,743/head for the week ending 06/08/08.

Recorded cows increased 20.0% between the week ending 30/07/08 and the week ending 06/08/08, to stand at £1,560/head. Commercial cows increased 19.7% in the week ending 06/08/08 when compared to the previous week, to average at £1,413/head. Commercial heifers saw the largest increase of 54.5% - £575/head to average at £1,631/head in the week ending 06/08/08.

In the calf market average prices for the week ending 06/08/08 fell for all calves with the exception of Friesian/Holstein heifers which saw the average price increase from £20/head in the week ending 30/07/08 to £146/head in the week ending 06/08/08. Friesian/Holstein bull calves fell £2/head - 6.7% to average at £28/head for the week ending 06/08/08. In the week ending 06/08/08 both beef bull calves and beef heifers calves fell when compared to the previous week, falling 4.9% and 12.2% respectively. Beef bull calves now average at £155/head while beef heifer calves average at £137/head.
