Published 28 June 2007
Sainsbury's has announced that it will be guaranteeing suppliers a 1ppl increase from 1 July. The supermarket has said that this increase is as a direct result of discussions with its Dairy Development Group. Sainsbury's set up dairy development groups with its 370 suppliers who are split between Dairy Crest and Robert Wiseman. At present, details are not available with regards as to how this announcement will be put into milk contracts.
In addition, Sainsbury's have also announced that it will be extending its dairy development groups to 260 cheese producers under its pledge to source regional cheeses (Lancashire, Cheshire, Double Gloucester etc) from their respective regions. The new initiative - suggested by members of the existing liquid milk group will offer investment and support opportunities from Sainsbury's.
