Marks & Spencer Increase their Milk Price
On the 18th September Marks & Spencer took the decision to increase its base price to the producers by 3.63ppl. This means that farmers will be gaining 28ppl, the highest price paid by a UK retailer, ahead of Tesco’s increase to 27.5ppl. However, Marks & Spencer have also increased their cost to the customer, with store prices rising from 38p/pint to 42p/pint, this is the equivalent of an increase from 67ppl to 74ppl – 7ppl, which is 3.37ppl above the increase seen by producers.
Arla Increases its Milk Price by 4.95ppl from October
Arla has confirmed that it will be paying an extra 4.95ppl to its members from 1 October, which will see its standard litre price increase to 25ppl. Arla has also confirmed that due to successful discussions with major retailers, producers will see an early interim increase in payment of 2ppl which will be backdated to 16 September, bringing the standard litre price for 16 September to 1 October to 22.05ppl.
Wyke Farms Increase their Milk Price
Wyke Farms, the UK’s largest independent milk and cheese processor based in Somerset has followed other processors by increasing the price it pays its producers for liquid milk. From 1 October it will be paying 27.5ppl for its standard litre, this is an increase of over 10.5ppl since March.
Wkye Farms managing director said the processor was committed to growing its brand and sharing its success with its suppliers.
