Job Losses at Former Dansco
Published 2 October 2007

There is to be a loss of up to 19 jobs at the former Dansco factory in Newcastle Emlyn, after the company went into administration and was taken over by Saputo.

The problems started when Dansco was unable to pay farmers for the milk they supplied, this lead to farmers supplying to other processors. Saputo has since bought the Dansco factory which manufactures mozzarella, and although Saputo has recruited more milk suppliers, these are not enough to keep the factory producing seven days a week, therefore production has been reduced to five days a week. Saputo states that the loss of 19 of the 123 members of staff is necessary to secure the long term future of the factory.
