Milk Link buy Cheese Company Stake
Published 2 January 2007

Milk Link has announced that it has acquired 100% control of the 'The Cheese Company' in a deal with Glanbia totaling £47.2million. The selling price includes £35.4million in loan notes to Glanbia inclusive of interest payments meaning that the 25% stake equates to £11.8million. For the period ending April 2006, 'The Cheese Company' made pre-tax profits of £5.6million with net assets totaling £32.2million.

The Cheese Company was a joint venture between Glanbia and Milk Link producing Cheddar, Stilton and Territorial Cheeses. As part of the original deal, restrictions were placed on the distribution of profits until loan obligations to Glanbia were paid. With Milk Link now owning 100% of the business, profits from the business can now be distributed amongst its members.
