EU export ban details revealed
Published 9 August 2007

It seems likely that some elements of the export ban on GB milk and milk products to the EU may be lifted by the end of this week.  The European Commission has indicated that pasteurised and heat-treated products with health certificate 5557EHC will be able to be exported.  However, there are reports that applying for these certificates has proved difficult and this is likely to delay any trade until next week.

At present, third country exports are still banned regardless of whether a certificate has been acquired.

As a result of the Foot and Mouth outbreak an export ban was placed on all livestock and livestock products from Great Britain.  Only products that were imported into the UK and have the country of origin clearly labeled can be exported without the need for a health certificate.
