First Milk announces development plan for a Scottish processing plant
Published 30 November 2007

First Milk, the dairy farmer co-operative, has announced that it is exploring plans to develop a new cheese and whey powder processing plant in the Kintyre peninsula. The proposed move follows a review of all of its current sites, including the creamery in Campbeltown, as part of its objective to operate a world class processing network.

The managing director of First Milk, Jeff Halliwell, stated the move is the best option in securing the long-term future of dairying in the peninsula. The plan is also supported by Scottish Government ministers, who helped explore possible financial support opportunities. First Milk is now in advanced discussions with grant funding bodies about possible support options.

The proposed development would allow First Milk the opportunity to maximise the potential of its Mull of Kintyre cheese brand.
