The future of Westbury Dairies Limited was secured this week, with the announcement that Dairy Farmers of Britain are to exit from the venture and step down from the board. The two remaining farmer owned co-ops, First Milk and Milk Link, will remain as shareholders of the venture and have agreed to underwrite the ongoing costs of the site.
However, Dairy Farmers of Britain have agreed a long term supply deal with the powder and butter production facility, which allows them limited access to the balancing capacity of Westbury. Furthermore, the arrangement will see Dairy Farmers of Britain contribute to the ongoing costs of the site.
The move will give First Milk and Milk Link full control of the site, with potential to develop the business.
