Organic

Latest data for organic production shows that between March and April the average milk yield increased by 0.5litres/day (2.3%) to an average of 22.3litres/day. However, annual comparisons show that in April 2007, the average milk yield was 24.6litres/day - 2.3litres/day more than the current level.

Average butterfat levels fell by three percentage points between March and April to 3.94%. However, this is still six percentage points higher than in April 2007 when butterfat averaged at 3.88%. Protein levels have increased by two percentage points when compared to March to stand at 3.17%, but are six percentage points lower than April 2007.

The average milk price fell by 2.75ppl (8.1%) between March and April to a current average of 31.12ppl. Annual results show the average milk price has increased by 7.16ppl (29.9%) from an average of 23.96ppl in April 2007. Concentrate use per litre has fallen by 0.06kg/litre between March and April, but has increased by 0.04kg/litre to 0.26kg/litre from April 2007.

Annual rolling results show that milk yields have increased by 2 litres per cow to 6,614 litres per cow for the 12 months ending April 2008, compared to the previous year. The average butterfat level has increased one percentage point from 3.93% to 3.94%. Protein levels have increased by one percentage point over the same period to an average of 3.22%. The average milk price for the 12 month period ending April 2008 stood at 30.13ppl, 4.07ppl (15.6%) more than the average price in the previous year. There has been an increase of 0.04kg/litre in the average level of concentrate use which now stands at 0.26kg/litre.

Jersey and Guernsey

Kingshay data for Jersey and Guernsey shows that between March and April there was an increase of 0.7litres/day in the average yield per cow to 18.7litres/day. This is the same average yield as in April 2007. Both butterfat and protein levels fell between March and April; butterfat levels fell by 20 percentage points to an average of 5.52% - seven percentage points higher than April 2007. Protein levels have fallen seven percentage points between March and April, to an average of 3.83% - two percentage points higher than the average protein level in April 2007.

The average milk price fell by 1.16ppl between March and April, to 29.13ppl. Annual comparisons show the average price has increased by 33.6% (7.33ppl) from 21.80ppl in April 2007. Monthly comparisons show that concentrate use has fallen by 0.04kg/litre to an average of 0.37kg/litre, but this is still 0.03kg/litre more than in April 2007.

Annual rolling results show that milk yields have fallen by 28 litres per cow to an average of 5,455 litres per cow in the 12 months ending April 2008. Butterfat levels increased nine percentage points to 5.53%, while protein levels have increased six percentage points to 3.87%. The average milk price has increased by 22.0% (4.96ppl) to an average of 27.50ppl over the same period. There was also an increase in the level of concentrate use in the 12 months ending April 2008, of 0.01kg/litre to an average of 0.38kg/litre.
