• Jersey and Guernsey (J&G) average milk yields increased by 0.3litres/day to 19.5litres/day between March and April.
• Butterfat levels fell by 14 percentage points over the period to 5.42%, protein levels remained at 3.75%.
• The average milk price fell by 2.07ppl to 26.28ppl in April.

Monthly results

Latest Jersey and Guernsey data shows that average milk yields have increased by 0.3litres/day (1.6%) between March and April, to 19.5litres/day. Over the same period, concentrate use fell by 0.05kg/litre (12.5%) to 0.35kg/litre. Annual comparisons show that the average milk yield has increased by 1.0litre/day (5.4%) from 18.5litres/day in March.

Butterfat levels averaged 5.42% in April; 14 percentage points lower than in March and 18 percentage points lower than in April 08. Protein levels remained at 3.75% between March and April; this is 11 percentage points lower than in April 08.

There has been a 2.07ppl (7.3%) fall in the J&G milk price between March and April, to 26.28ppl, this is also 2.9ppl (9.9%) lower than the 29.18ppl in April 08.

Annual Rolling Averages

Kingshay rolling annual data shows the average yield per cow has increased by 51 litres per cow (0.9%), from 5,535 litres per cow in the 12 months ending April 08. Butterfat and protein levels have also fallen during the period, by six percentage points to 5.43% and eight percentage points to 3.78% respectively.

There has been a 2.04ppl (7.4%) increase in the average milk price from the 12 months ending April 08, to 29.68ppl in the 12 months ending April 09.
