Latest feed price data shows that the spread of dairy ration prices have increased by £8/tonne between March and April. This gives an average price for low energy specification of £176/tonne - £63/tonne (55.8%) more than the average price in April 2007.
A strike by farmers in Argentina over export taxes has led to a shortage of Argentine Soyameal, with none available in the UK. This is likely to have influenced the average price of Hipro Soyameal, which is £50/tonne (18.8%) higher than in March, at £315/tonne. This is £166/tonne more than the price 12 months ago, when the average price of Hipro Soyameal stood at £149/tonne.
There was also an increase in the average price of Rapeseed meal and Maize gluten compared to the previous month, Rapeseed meal increased by £22/tonne (11.4%) to an average of £215/tonne; and Maize gluten was up by £12/tonne (7.1%) to £180/tonne.
Feed wheat prices eased down slightly in April to an average of £181/tonne, £12/tonne (6.2%) less than the average price in March - However, prices remain £77/tonne (74.0%) more than the average price in April.
